a focus on alumni

In the year ahead, Coro is committed to building the leadership community of New York City through new alumni events and activities, learning opportunities, and ways to celebrate our accomplishments.  Over 200 alumni provided input during last year's strategic planning process to guide our thinking and we are pleased to present several new programs and ideas that grew from those conversations.

We are moving forward with new ways to engage with Coro alumni and support their lifelong commitment to civic life.   This is just the beginning.  Later this spring we will be introducing new opportunities for the alumni including "alumni issue evenings" and advanced leadership training.  We encourage you to join us as we build a more vibrant and robust alumni community.

new approach to recruitment and selection

To build on the expertise of the Coro alumni community, we are creating alumni advisory panels to guide our recruitment efforts and develop engaging new ways to involve the community in our program selection efforts. Please contact Aditi Chakravarty, Recruitment & Outreach Manager, to learn more about recruitment advisory panels.

the future of new york city's workforce: a coro conversation

Coro is partnering with the Center for an Urban Future and Year Up to host a conversation about the city's workforce challenges based on the Center's recent policy report, Closing the Skills Gap, which finds that the city faces a human capital crisis that could threaten our long-term economic competitiveness while relegating countless residents to low-wage jobs.

Featuring Gonzalo Mercado (ICLP 2008), Executive Director of El Centro de Hospitalidad, and Angie Kamath (ICLP 2007), Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Development at NYC Department of Small Business Services, we are convening Coro alumni from different sectors and perspectives to join us for a thoughtful conversation about the City's workforce challenges and our choices for the future.

Date:  Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Time: 6:30 to 8:00pm

Location: Edwin Gould Foundation; 55 Exchange Place

Cost: Free
