jessamyn waldman wins coro alumni award

To recognize the unique contributions and impact of the Coro community, we will now be honoring one alumna/us each year at our Leadership Awards Dinner.

We are very excited to announce that this year's winner is Jessamyn Waldman, founder of Hot Bread Kitchen, an award winning social enterprise. Since its inception in 2007, Hot Bread Kitchen has grown from a visionary idea to a working bakery that hires and trains immigrant women to bake artisanal breads that reflect their countries of origin, as well as tantalize the palates of sophisticated New Yorkers with products like hand-ground corn tortillas, organic lavash, and Sephardic challahs. You can learn more about Jessamyn and Hot Bread Kitchen here.

We invite you to come celebrate Jessamyn's work and connect with friends and colleagues from the Coro community at the Coro New York Civic Leadership Awards Dinner on May 11.

come celebrate with us

"My participation in Coro's Immigrant Civic Leadership Program was integral to the development and launch of Hot Bread Kitchen. Receiving the inaugural alumni award is an immense honor for me and Hot Bread Kitchen. Being selected from a group that includes the city's most influential leaders shows that Coro really values progressive multi-sectoral thinking on persistent social problems."

-Jessamyn Waldman (ICLP 2007), Coro Alumni Award Honoree

There's still time to join us at the Coro New York Awards Dinner on Tuesday, May 11th at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.

first alumni issue evening

The Impact of Financial Reform on NYC

We are pleased to announce our first ever Alumni Issue Evening: Financial Reform and Its Impact on NYC.

 null preview

As part of our strategic plan, Coro is increasing learning opportunities for our alumni community and one of the most frequent requests was for programming similar to what you experienced in your program. This evening will be modeled on the Issue Day format used in Leadership New York:  exploring a current policy dilemma, learning through inquiry, and incorporating various perspectives.

New York City has long claimed the title of "Financial Capital of the World" - serving both as a source of pride and civic identity.  The financial services sector is a major component of the city's economy providing more than 10% of the jobs and 30% of the wages (and 10% of city tax revenue).  But with the current economic recession and the role financial institutions had in it, there is increasing pressure from Main Street to regulate Wall Street.  Given all the competing interests, it is critical to step back and consider the multiple perspectives and potential impact of pending financial reform being discussed in Washington DC.

During our alumni issue evening, we will explore the question "Will new financial reforms change New York City as we know it?".  Join us for a panel discussion and a lively dialogue with the Coro alumni community.

This evening is hosted by The Federal Reserve Bank of New York City and Coro alumna Erica Groshen (LNY XVIII), Vice President and Director of Regional Affairs.
