What sets Coro apart is our alumni community.  The result of nearly 30 years of Coro training is one of the most effective communities of leaders in New York. 

 

Nearly two thousand Coro graduates- from Commissioners to neighborhood activists to corporate leaders to the hundreds of others across all walks of civic life- make this city a better place for all who live and work here.

This is why we are excited to launch the Coro Alumni Award and honor a member of the Coro community alongside the worthy civic accomplishments of American Express, Jonathan Tisch and Phil Laskawy, when we gather in May at our annual awards dinner.

To help us identify the inaugural winner of the Coro alumni award we are turning to the Coro community who knows firsthand who has contributed uniquely and meaningfully to the civic life of the city.

null previewJennifer Ching (ICLP 2009) says, "Participating in Coro was one of the smartest decisions I ever made as a non-profit manager and advocate."

She noted that despite her considerable experience in the nonprofit sector, ICLP provided her with a much-needed opportunity to re-examine her professional vision and purpose.

During her term with ICLP, Jennifer made a personal decision to join Queens Legal Services as their new Director. 

As Jennifer notes, "I met so many extraordinary activists through ICLP. Their energy and passion for social change inspired me to look hard at what I wanted to do with my own life.

Having spent much of the past year to develop a new vision for a more robust and vibrant alumni community, we now look to our annual dinner to help us make this vision a reality.  To have a successful dinner, we now look to the support of our alumni community.  This year we are expanding the role of our Alumni Dinner Committee to not only encourage your fellow Coro classmates to participate in our largest annual event, but also be part of the selection process of our first ever Coro Alumni Award.

Fellows Selection Day - March 19th

Selection Day is a unique and interactive day-long interview of the 30 finalists of the Fellows Program in Public Affairs. The Coro community can participate as community judges who evaluate candidates in a series of group activities and individual interviews.

The Future of New York City's Workforce: A Coro Conversation

Coro is partnering with the Center for an Urban Future and Year Up to host a conversation about the city's workforce challenges based on the Center's recent policy report, Closing the Skills Gap.

Joy Shigaki, Coro's Director of Development, has recently announced that she will be leaving Coro to join Episcopal Relief and Development as the Director of NetsforLife Inspiration Fund Campaign and Church Campaigns. This national, grassroots, multi million-dollar effort will raise funds for malaria prevention globally and address other Millennium Development Goals. It is an organization and an issue that Joy feels deeply connected to and an opportunity that she simply could not pass up. Joy has been instrumental to helping Coro successfully develop our new strategic vision and expand our fundraising strategies to help us achieve our goals.  We wish her all the best in her new endeavor. She will be missed.
